Ancient Pamphylia
A famous destination for historical tours in Turkey Lycian way is a stretch of coastline offers excavated ruins of Lycia, an ancient empire known for their fighting skills, strong philosophy, and architectural trends. 
Little is mentioned of his former neighbor region called Pamphylia, an area encompassing the modern city of Antalya and the coastal resorts of Side andAlanya. Lost in history, do not know about the language of Pamphylia, but historians have found, people were good at export crops and under Roman rule, successfully faced many invasions of pirates, who saw all cities oldest in the South-West to be a treasure of wealth coast.

Backed by dominant Taurus Mountains and surrounded by fertile plains, Pamphylia citizens are believed to have been descendants of the Hittite empire, but also the region was ruled by several dynasties including the Romans and Alexander the Great. 
Compared to other ancient regions, Pamphylia was extremely small, extending only 120 kilometers from the coast. In fact, many visitors to the area are more interested in swimming opportunities presented by miles of long sandy beaches. The sites discovered and excavated ruins are still worth a trip, though, especially if you have an interest in history.

Three famous historical sites of ancient Pamphylia 
With an acropolis dating back to the Bronze Age, Perge, an important city of ancient Pamphylia, has an impressive collection of ruins to walk including the agora, theater, Roman baths and the Hellenistic city gate. Perge was also a center of Christianity and of St. Paul, passed through his travels. Another famous citizen was the smart mathematician Apollonius, who lived and worked in ancient Perge for 70 years. 
Forty kilometers east of the city of Antalya are the splendid ruins of Aspendos. Thanks to its extensive use of the currency in BC the fifth century, it was an important center for trade in oil, wool and salt, therefore, its promotion, as a leading city in Pamphylia. The main reason most people visit is to see the remarkably preserved theater seats 7,000 people. Today, it also offers a surreal atmosphere for the annual Festival Aspendos International Opera and Ballet. Other ruins of the tour include the basilica, agora, and the aqueduct.

The small seaside town of Side is popular among foreign tourists, who come for the long beaches and trendy cafes, but still retains its roots and traces impressively past. Thriving under the Roman Empire, which was one international trade in Pamphylia and a center for slavery. Passing the city walls, you reach the 20,000-seat theater in the heart of the city. Built in the style of a Roman amphitheater, the main difference is the lack of support for the slopes as seen in theaters Perge and Aspendos. Excavations around the town continue, but now, an aqueduct, three temples and an old natural water sources have been discovered.
